Prom is a time that most kids either look back on with fondness or despair (when you play the game of prom, you either win or you die!). Some people look great and find the perfect person/people to share it with and others…don’t. Some even elect not to go at all. If you do plan on going, here are 8 songs for the perfect promposal that will help woo your guy/girl/hobo off the street into going with you, and hopefully, bring you one step closer to the night of your dreams and/or nightmares.

1) Let’s Go – Matt and Kim

 Promposal playlist

Not everyone wants to go to prom. Some kids legitimately don’t feel like going, while others think they’re being cool non-conformists by staying at home, all while their friends are having the time of their lives. Basically, those who opt to stay home are the people who’ll regret their decisions later. Convince your girl or guy to go with you by playing this upbeat tune that chants “let’s go” over and over again. Eventually you’ll get them with the not-so-subliminal messaging alone.

2) Marry You –Bruno Mars

Prom is an excellent time for people who are in a relationship. In fact, in my final year of high school, prom was the primary motivation for even acquiring a boo. Even though your partner is a tailor-made prom date, you should still put in the effort when asking officially them to be your prom date. For the sake of cuteness, use this frankly adorable Bruno Mars song (note: just DON’T get married. Other than that, the rest of the song is pretty cute).

3) One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks) – One Direction

Maybe you have the perfect person in mind to take to prom; they’re cute, funny, nice, and you want to put your face on their face. But— plot twist—they have no idea that you exist. Use this song to tell them that you WILL get them to go to prom with you, one way or another.

Note: author not responsible for anyone being creeped out and/or terrified by this prom-posal tactic.

 4) Umbrella ft. Jay-Z feat. Rihanna

Not everybody has romantic interests in high school. If you don’t but still have a buddy that you want to take, you can play this song outside their window John Cusack-style. After they get over their initial confusion, don’t forget to explain to them that you want to go to prom with them BFF-style.

5) Crew Love ft. The Wknd – Drake

Maybe you couldn’t pick just one bestie to share your prom experience with and want to take your entire friend group. Tell your crew how you feel about them with this cool little track, and when you guys all roll up in your limo at prom (pro-tip: play this song while white doves fly out from behind you to look cooler) you can declare how much you’re lovin’ your crew.

6) Ridin Solo – Jason Derulo

So let me just start by saying that this song has been out for a few years now and I only just found out that it wasn’t sung by Taio Cruz. Anyways, moving on, some people just want to got stag to prom. This is totally okay. In fact, I wish I had done this when I went to prom as it would have saved me a lot of head/heart ache, but I digress. If you go alone, you get to truly “do you” as Derulo sings; no worrying about matching another person or embarrassing them with your dance moves. So embrace your singleness this prom season, and use the opportunity to show off your favourite person in the world: you.

7) Closer – Tegan and Sara

For some reason girls get really hung up about the importance of guys asking them to prom (actually straight girls seem to get hung up about guys asking them to do anything but that is a different issue/rant) but that needn’t be the case. It’s time to take some initiative ladies (or it’s time to be as bossy as I am whichever you prefer). This song makes me feel like the sassy minx which I am not and makes me feel as though I should give every male near me a “come hither look”. Harness this power and just ask your man to prom all ready; you’ll both be happier for it.

8) A to Z – Diamond Rings

Okay now let me address all the fellas in the room (yes, I just said fellas, like your weird spinster aunt). Hi, guys. A lot of high school girls are relying on you to make prom a special time for them. So please, don’t mess it up by not asking them to go with you because you assumed they will be your date. Or worse, don’t ask them in some lame-o (your spinster aunt strikes again) way where it’s obvious you put zero effort in your “prom-posal.” Show your special lady friend that she is indeed special. This sweet song by Diamond Rings will do just that and she’ll positively melt just listening to the lyrics. YOU ARE WELCOME. *drops the mic*
